Why come here

What makes Ituero special

🏔️

Unspoiled nature

The Sierra de Alcaraz is one of the least-visited mountain ranges in Spain. Ituero sits right in the middle of it — rivers, forests, rocky gorges and no crowds.

🦅

Wildlife

Golden eagles, black storks, red kites, otters and deer share the valley. The Laguna del Arquillo Natural Monument is 7 km away and home to trout, pike and rare crayfish.

🌌

Dark skies

No light pollution. On a clear night the Milky Way is visible with the naked eye. One of the best spots for stargazing in Castile-La Mancha.

🎸

Ituerock Festival

Every August, a free rock festival takes place on the sports courts. Local bands, good atmosphere, everyone welcome. No ticket needed.

🥾

Hiking

Several trails start from the village: the Arquillo reservoir path, the canyon of the Masegoso river, and forest routes through pine and holm oak.

🤫

Silence

60 inhabitants. No traffic lights, no queues, no noise. Just the wind, the birds and the sound of the river. Some people come for a weekend and stay much longer.

What to do

5 things not to miss

01

Climb to La Piedra del Portalón

A short walk from the village square. 360° views over the canyon, the reservoir and the mountain ranges beyond. Best at sunrise or sunset.

02

Fish or walk around the Laguna del Arquillo

A protected natural reservoir 7 km from the village. Fishing permits required. The walk around the lake takes about 90 minutes and the views are extraordinary.

03

Walk the canyon of the Masegoso river

The river cuts through limestone cliffs just below the village. Look for the stone walls (cercas) built by hand to contain livestock — a unique landscape.

04

Look up at night

Away from any city lights, the night sky above Ituero is remarkable. Bring a blanket in summer and find a quiet spot on the hillside.

05

Ask a neighbour

There are 60 people here. Most of them know every path, every cave, every good mushroom spot in the area. The best local knowledge is never in a guidebook.
